The Nintendo Gamecube was first announced in an August 25, 2000 conference in Japan. Then in E3 2001 Nintendo unveiled its software lineup for the console.

Finally on September 14, 2001 it was released in Japan and then in North America on November 18, 2001. Europe would get it's launch on May 3, 2002. In it's life cycle the Gamecube would go on to sell a total of 21.7 million consoles globally with a total of 621 officially released games.
New Age
The Nintendo GameCube was the first Nintendo console to start utilizing disc's instead of cartridges for it's game media increasing the capabilities of what developers could now do and gone were the days of ultra compression
Library
The Gamecube remains to be one of the most beloved Nintendo consoles of all time featuring Super Smash Bros Melee, Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Zelda Windwaker, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart Double Dash, Starfox Adventures, Resident Evil 4, and Pikmin.
GameBoy Player
The Nintendo GameCube is considered by many the ultimate GameBoy thanks to it's Game Boy Player extention that allowed players to play any GameBoy, GameBoy Color, and GameBoy Advance games from the comfort of their TV and Gamecube controller.
Legacy
The GameCube goes down in history as the console that provided us with arguably the best Smash Bros. of all time, Super Mario Sunshine which is aesthetically one of the best looking games and the likes of Windwaker and all time Zelda favorite.
