Wii U

2013

The Nintendo Wii U is Nintendo's successor to the the Wii and showcased some of Nintendo's vision for innovation again. The Wii U allowed for players to play their games directly from the gamepad in handheld mode or from the comfort of their HDTV.. The Gamepad was quite advanced for it's time including a front and rear facing camera, microphone, touchscreen, tv remote functionality, gyroscope and motion sensors

amiibo

The Wii U introduced the amiibo and started the trend which carried over to the Nintendo Switch! Dozens of amiibo have been released since the Wii U and have become highly sought after items by collectors and gamers alike.

Games

The Wii U held a noble but memorable library of games, many of which ended up carrying over to the Nintendo Switch as remastered or deluxe versions.

The more notable titles on the Wii U include Super Smash Bros Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Splatoon, Zelda Windwaker HD, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Super Mario 3D World, and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

Legacy

The Wii U remains beloved by many but misunderstood by most/ This consoles legacy is seen as one of Nintendo's most innovative consoles that simply did not gain the commercial traction they hoped for which would eventually lead to the loss of 3rd party developer support and an early end to the Wii U's lfiecycle.
